Marcy Levy Shankman is the founder of MLS Consulting and has been consulting with higher education institutions and non-profit organizations since 1998 in areas of leadership and organizational development. She has conducted research, coordinated region-wide coalitions, and spoken to numerous organizations about topics ranging from the challenges of change to understanding bias to generational differences in the workplace. She has written and facilitated custom-designed leadership development curriculum for a variety of educational experiences, including workshops, professional development seminars, and half-day or multiple day retreats. She has worked with students, professionals, volunteers, and boards in groups as small as five to as large as 85. This past year she created and published the EI profile: An emotional intelligence self-assessment. This instrument is designed to introduce individuals and organizations to emotional intelligence, and the use of the instrument is centered on personal development.
Previous professional positions include working at the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy in program development in Central and Eastern Europe, fund raising, and conference planning. She also has worked as the Director of Student Activities for the Hillel Foundation at The George Washington University in Washington, DC and as the Student Program Coordinator at the University of Iowa.
Marcy earned her Ph.D. from Indiana University in higher education administration in 2001. Her dissertation is titled “Organizational Creation in Higher Education: The Indiana University Center on Philanthropy”. While at Indiana University, she taught three semesters in the higher education masters program. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Anthropology from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA and a Master of Arts in College Student Personnel from the University of Maryland, College Park
Currently involved as a member of the Advisory Board for COOL City Cleveland, she also volunteers in the Cleveland Public Schools as a tutor for the Ohio Reads program and serves on the Alumni Admissions Council for the College of William and Mary.
